Project 2 SUBMISSION : Room and Narrative

The Idea




The red line represent the handrail goes through the whole space ... like the ribbon flow the material I use is timber,concrete and glass.. and the house is southwest facing since the location is in London , therefore ,even the backyard is very open and useing a wall of glass glazing ... the north sun wouldn't bring much heat for the back of the building.


the grey and blue area is both part of the ribbon, imagine ther are form the same line but wrapped into a bow .. and finally it comes out with 2 spaces ...

still it is closely connected with the wall in the middle ,the wall for ribbon display

The two space is designed to be in contrast as one of its is more enclosed, less source of sunlight as the represent the girl inside the room ,
where the other is more lively , double height ceiling , allows more sunlight and related to the outside ,represent the spiritual atmosphere of the ribbon flow , which is a space dedicated for the ribbon bow .

The site is located inside a house in portobello road, the house owner is a relative of the ballerina,therefore the ballerina will share the same entrance as the house owner,at the ground floor is a shop own by the hosue owner.

When she first enter the first floor the space she would be feeling is small where is the space for her to tie her ribbon bow.

After that she can go through the wall next to it to a double-volume space where she will put her ribbon bow.
the first and second floor is connected by a ramp by the wall where she will tie her bow and she will go up to the second floor to her dancing room.

The circulation is going through the space, from one to the other,passing through the "knot" where it is represented by the wall in the middle




when she pass through the wall,she will experience the changes from a small,dim space to a
double ceiling height, larger space ...
this is from the idea of the Summer Interior ( the selected drawing) that "there may be something very different behind the curtain"

How does it feel from outside...





Looking at the elevation of the display area and the working area ( tie ribbon and dancing room )
the 2 space are very solid and semi -open

I tried to use this to represent the ribbon bow is tied in two "circle" yet it is conected by a knot
also , it represent the feeling of 2 different space according my understanding to the painting
