The selected site is site 1, long and narrow with interesting sound experience.
The main entrance from King Street is crowded and noisy from traffic , people gather outside the cinema ,which is just next to the site.
However, experience of entrance form the back is totally different ,quiet , with cemetry and church adjacent to it .
G/F PLAN

The whole idea of the art gallery is an extension of the street, there are 2 main circulation in the gallery, one for the public, the other one for the artist's own.
Since the artist moved into the city for a while,he needs certain degree of privacy but at the same time giving him chances to promote his own business.
The circulation on the ground floor is mainly for the artist , there are 2 entrance form Kings Street and the back lance, it is obvious to see the facade from the kings street is built by 2 different materials and height as it emphasis the scale for public and scale for private use.
1/F PLAN

The public circulation starts on the 1/F , the ramp is intended to rise up as a overview of the street.
Entering the Atrium
the public would see the reception where they can get the gallery information , and they will enter the ramp circulation with the painting gallery on the right and an open coutyard is outside for scuplture display, visitiors could have a drink there .

Model built in scale 1:100

There are two different entrance from the king street. It was my intention to use different materials and scale so that public will know which one is the entrance and may not notice the entrances are from the same site.

The atrium is double ceiling, as a language of welcoming . Reception is facing to the public ,as the street is a shop to her from looking outside and the art gallery is a shop from the view of outside.Behind the reception, there is a staff office for meeting and office work.

Behind the reception ,there is an opening for the entrace of office.
it was set back to have a corridor outside the office and the art gallery display space is on top of it.
The visitor from upper level could view the extra art painting in a distance as the large painting will hang up on the wall on the side. ( refer to perspective below)

This photo shows the ramp .. is slowly rises up form the street and bring the public to
experience the journey from one to another.
the Ramp is set back in between rooms to emphasis the entrance of the ground floor use ( workshop and storage) as well as giving distance with the art display area ( on first floor before they entering the space to experience.

The ramp is started in a enclosed space, the artrium , to the art gallery display space and it will
pass through to the outdoor terrace where there will be a cafe and scuplture display.
Visitors could view the artist's own garden from the terrace and the artist's activities.

(left) the artist workshop is located in the ground floor, it is facing a private corridor which would not disturb by outside. on the other side, there is glass window and set back of the terrace which receive the sunlight for the working environment.
The solid wall facing the garden is intended to built so that visitors from upper level could not see while the artist is working .

Courtyard,
the visitors standing from the bookstore and the scuplture terrace on first level could view the garden view of the artist own, which he may display his art work .
as a visual language of the interaction between both party
